Maserati was founded in 1914 by Alfieri, Bindo, Carlo, Ettore and Ernesto Maserati all brothers in Bologna, Italy. The headquaters is now in the famous Italian motoring town of Modena and their emblem is the trident. In 1968 Maserati was bought by Citroen and some interesting cars came from that alliance, such as the Citroen SM. 1975 saw leadership change to Alassandro de Tomaso and some ties with Chrysler. In the 80’s Meserati moved to front engine rear wheel drive saloons and coupes that were quite simply not their finest hour. Fiat took charge in 1993, although amalgamations with Ferrari in 1997 remained part of Fiat. This however saw a change of fortune for the Italian car maker with the 1998 launch of the 3200GT which caught public imagination and even made a profit for a short while.
