Skoda were the butt of most car jokes in the eighties and some of the nineties. “Why do Skoda’s have heated rear windows – to keep your hands warm when your pushing them”, “how do you double the value of a Skoda – fill the petrol tank”. The worm has turned, the Czech car manufacturer has been wholly owned by VW since 2000 and they are now incredibly reliable with many shared engines and floorpans to the rest of the VW Group. Still at the more keenly priced end of the VW family they make a very good buy. So many cab drivers have opted for the Octavia and Superb diesels for this very reason. So Skoda are having the last laugh.
Skoda have also brought out a VRS version of their cars which are their sporty versions and they are also very good and the tuners of the world have caught on.
